Evaluation Question 6

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Photoshop

When making my magazine i used photoshop , photoshop made this process so much easier because i could do so much like manipulate the colour of my images change backgrounds and create brush effects.
I think the most helpful tool i used in photoshop was the shape tool and brush tool the brush tool helped my create the pattern behind my model on the double Page spread seen here.
Without this i think my magazine would be to boring when added it doesn't make it to clumped but keeps it plain and simple.

Blogger

I have also used Blogger obviously as a portfolio for all my work i think blogger is a very helpful way to show work because it keeps everything neat and tidy and you can keep up to date with what your on.

Flickr

I have also used Flickr to annotate my pictures this is very handy because you Can add little tags and show whats on your covers and other images. Flickr can also be used to analyse videos and add notes. I already had prior knowledge of Flickr so it wasn't all new to me and i know what i was doing.

Evaluation Question 5

How did you attract/addressee your audience?

My magazine talks in a young way and isnt to formal it will have swearing but nothing more than words such as 'Shit' i dont think this is bad because the types of people who are going to be buying my magazone will be used to hearign these words day to day. People will want to buy my magazine because it's young and up with the trends it will also keep people in the know about the latest fashion tips so you always know whats comign into fashion.

I know all this because i was constantly gettign feedback from fellow class members askign them what they though would be suitable for my type of magazine.

Here is a short video interviewing someone on what they think would be suitable in my magazine.

What do you think to my double page spread?

Do you think the image i used is suitable for the genre?

Evaluation Question 4

Who would be the audience for your media product?

This is the kind of person that would buy my magazine young, fashionable, and trendy. The kind of person that would buy my magazine would love music and be an aspirer The average age range would be 16-24. They love fashion brands and really take care of what they look like they would spend all there money on top fashion brands if they could such as Ralph Lauren and YvesSaintLaurent

People would buy my magazine because there is nothing in the market like it at the moment and it will keep people up to date with all the latest music charts and genres. People would also buy my magazine because it gives the latest fashion news and tells you the price of all the newest stuff. My magazien will also include vouchers for shops like Hollister and House of Fraser and vouchers for song ites like Itunes and Bitto.

The types of things that would be advertised in my magazine ould be cars such as Toyota Aygos, Citreon C1's and Pegeut 206's because they are cheap affordable street cars. It would also advertise new Cd's and games because people who buy my magazine will love to play computer game sin their spare time.

Evaluation Question 3

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

When distributing my magazine i would choose a company with a big name and reputation such as Bauer because when magazines are self published they usually don't gain very much revenue.
Here are some advertisement techniques i can use to get my magazine well known.

-Posters
-In Magazine Advertisements
-Partner Magazines

Due to these circumstances i think Bauer would be the perfect company to distribute my magazine as they have a wide knowledge of the magazine industry as they sell a wide variety of music magazines such as , NME which is very successful i know my magazine isn't really the same kind of Genre as NME but i feel my magazine meets the same kind of needs.
I also think my magazine would be successful being distributed with this company because they dont make a magazine like mine yet and there is a gap in the market for a magazine like mine.

Evaluation Question 2

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

"In marketing and advertising, a target audience, is a specific group of people within the target market at which the marketing message is aimed at"

Wikipedia

For some companies they don't have to worry about there target audience because its aimed at everyone, My magazine however isn't its targeted at a very specific group of people that's why i need to get it perfect for my audience. Although market research seems like an utter waste of time it lets you narrow in on who your target audience really are and specific things they like so you can get the right kind of advertisements in the magazine. When i did my market research the general people who would buy a magazine of my sort are mostly main streamers with the averaging age of 20-29 and they like to keep up with fashion and look good , they also like going shopping and have designer brands.

When looking for inspirations for my photo shoot i went straight to designer brands websites such as: Jack Wills, Hollister and Polo Ralph Lauren in these photos they are mostly doing almost Godish poses and biblical poses and had a fairly plain and graphical feel to them so i took this on board when doing my photos and for my Double page spread image i used my model to his full potential and make him do a biblical pose i did a medium close up so the camera was focusing more on his upper half doing the pose so his lower half doesn't distract the reader. However i actually went non conventional and went against the rule of thirds and cut his hands of the top of the image i think this gives us a image of him being bigger than he really is and i feel it turned out very well.

Below is a video showing soem of the poses i got my inspirations from for my poses.

Evaluation Question 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Front Cover

At the top of my magazine cover is a cover line with a big masthead next to it. I have chosen to name my magazine BeatZ because the Beat part represents the genre of music my magazine is aimed at and the Z just make it stand out and goes against the conventions . I decided to make the name relate to the genre because it makes people remember it easier i always find the magazines with names relating to the subject help me remember them . The masthead gives the audiences an idea what magazine it is and hints of what it is about. The dress code i used on my front cover was a fashionable young look with designer labels as i believe these are the kinds of thing the target audience would be wearing.

Breaking conventions can either go really well or really badly however if you make it to unconventional your making the magazine for you and not for your target audience.

Contents

The contents page of my magazine is quite plain and crisp with lots of white space however it is very effective as the white space makes you concentrate more on whats important . I added a some graphical images which makes the whole page feel more photoshopped and more stylish. I have also made everything look crisp by spacing everything out and not clumping it together.

Double Page Spread

My Double Page spread is fairly unconventional as a lot of the page is just plane white with a big image.I chose for my model to do a god like pose as when researching designer brands websites all the models seemed to be doing objective gazes and being to cool to be standing casually.

In the mainstream music magazine industry there is always a structure in which it goes in to stick to the conventions here are as follows:

  • Information Architecture – This is the idea that everything is ordered according to importance and relevance. Content such as heading titles and the 1st paragraph is placed above over secondary content such as pagination.

  • Purpose of object - The size and colour of any piece of content is determined for its purpose. This is different to the idea that when something is bigger it receives more attention. There is no fool-proof formula to decide a hierarchy, as influences are arbitrary.

  • Variety - Each page within a magazine usually consists of a ratio of text to images. This ratio is typically similar throughout the entire magazine (Continued in my next point) but fluctuates in correspondence to the page content. For instance DPS on artists are more like to have a higher text ratio compared to a page on fashion.

  • Balance – Throughout the magazine there is a current theme in terms of design, shape, layout & colour. This typically follows the magazine title & cover.

My target audience are fairly non mainstream so i have to add little non conventional pieces to my magazine, Throughout my magazine i have used quite a lot of blank spacing to make it fairly plain and simple which i believe makes the whole magazine look more crisp and i wanted it to look very graphical hence why i did lots of different box designs. Cut of boxes are used throughout the magazine as i think they stand out and are useful for adding information into.
